At the time of writing this short review, I just finished Metro 2033 - somewhere right at around 10 hours of playtime.I had played some of this game not long after the original version had released but recall getting stuck early on and giving up on it. Flash forward to 2020 and the improvements and additional gameplay options provided in the Redux package have breathed new life into these games for me. The ability to play in “Spartan” mode is what made vs broke this game experience for me. I’m not generally into meticulous, painful survival horror games - so being able to play through this first title with more ammo (more akin to a traditional shooter) was a must. The Metro games are heavy in atmosphere, immersive, depressing-yet-hopeful, and always tinged with a feeling of dread. While mostly linear per each progressing chapter, I found there were always secret areas in each small sandbox area to find if I searched hard enough. This always leads to an extra sense of reward for going off the beaten path. The gunplay and other actions all carry a unique weightiness to them. I grew to really appreciate the motions of wiping water or blood off of my visor, recharging flashlight batteries, reloading and firing my weapons, and crafting them to fit my play style. The flow of the game and breaking of chapters is done mostly well in my opinion. Enough to keep the pacing feeling quick while providing some momentary respite in some non-threatening NPC centers. I was consistently engaged and interested in the story, liked the lead protagonist and several comrades throughout, and easily immersed in this dark world. Very well done. While I can’t speak to Last Light yet (hope to start it soon), I can easily say that 2033’s port to the Switch was/is fantastic. The quality of graphics and FPS of the game was consistent and extremely impressive for being scaled down to fit and run on the Switch’s hardware. I had no graphical issues or frame drops throughout my 10ish hours of playtime. The work that the dev team put into this port is astonishing and I’m so glad they did it themselves. Easily one of the most impressive ports I’ve seen on the system so far (among Divinity Original Sin 2 and The Witcher 3).All in all, you are getting two excellent, atmospheric, immersive, gritty, pulse pounding first person shooters in this package. On top of that, it says the 10 hour DLC to Last Light is always included. That’s an amazing deal! Additionally, you have the options to play Survival or Spartan, depending on your preference, because it is the Redux versions. AND it’s ALL on the cart. No extra downloads required. That’s a HUGE plus in my book. Lastly, the game is already discounted on Amazon - and at around $40 this is an absolute steal.Couldn’t recommend enough.I’m going to get right down to it because I’ve now had two complete duds in a row on the Switch. I don’t think there’s been an FPS shooter on the Switch that I haven’t enjoyed from the retro glory of Ion Fury to the brilliance of Elite Sniper 4. That is, until I played Metro Redux. I get what the developers were going for. This is a grim, post-apocalyptic survival horror. The whole world is dark and blighted with vicious mutated creatures wandering the landscape. The problem is the game fails in just about everything it tries to do.I was playing a section where I was being led through a tunnel and it actually wasn’t that bad. It was atmospheric and intriguing. Then I got to the gameplay. What a miserable, soul sucking experience. I need to get somewhere to do something, and I have an absolutely worthless compass to guide me. There is an endless number of spawning monsters attacking me and a very limited amount of ammo. It’s dark and I’m shooting while backing away as fast as I can trying to dispatch the monsters before they kill me. Maybe I kill them and if so, I frantically try to search and find something to do before the next wave comes AND I’m dead. Start over again. And again. And again. All that’s going through my head is, “I hate this game”.One of my main criteria for playing a game is, how hard is the game to put down. In this case, I literally might give up on this game despite having played far less than the entire game because I hate picking it up. So, what do Elite Sniper 4, Doom, Ion Fury and Crysis 2 have in common? They are all FAR superior to Metro Redux and they all have lower Metacritic scores. I recently gave WRC 9 a one start because I found the game unplayable but even in THAT game, I’m able to continue on even if I come in last place in nearly every race. In this case, I’m stuck and I’m just hating the game. I’ve played games where I’ve persevered and forged on when stuck but I just don’t want to keep playing this unpleasant, unfun and ugly game. Heck, I 100 percented New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe. I’m willing to put in the work. This game is drudgery. The game has an 80 Metacritic score and quite a few 90+ individual scores. It has an 8.2 user rating on 76 using ratings. Those are pretty good score. I found the game a dismal, dreary mess. I probably played every level in Elite Sniper 4 five to ten times. I finished Crysis 2 multiple time. FPS might be my favorite genre of all time and I’m a survival horror fan going back to the first Resident Evil game. This game is terrible. Buy it at your own risk but my suggestion is to get any of the other games I’ve mentioned and give this one a big pass. It’s dark. Hard to play with any lite on or daylightFirst of all I finished the first game Metro 2033. The game is very good and is structured similarly to Half-Life (a very old game). Before I get to the flaws: also let me say I like the fact both games are physically on the cart. Yes - there are downloads needed (Correction: there is NO additional download needed for Metro 2033 & Last Light - both full games are already on the cart), but at least it was not the cart for one game and a download code for the 2nd game. This way if someone else in my family wants to play the game they can play both games on their switch. The following maybe considered by some as spoilers, but not really???Now to the game review itself: Like I said it is a very good game - story wise and play wise. However some things that I consider flaws really hurt the enjoyment of the game: many areas are very dark (of course you can increase the brightness) but then the brighter areas are not too bright. Two, this one is worst - in some parts of the game you are required to wear gas mask w/ replaceable filters. The problem is they are in short supply and it makes you rush through those areas. Unlike many games where you have time to look around to find items - the need for to replace filters make you rush.Side note: the game does support motion controls so that was good.recuerdan cuando a la hora de comprar un juego era solo de poner en la consola y jugar?pues este es uno de esos no te pide actualizaciones pones el cartucho en la consola y listo juega.en el cartucho se encuentran tanto el metre 2033 redux como el last light redux completos con todo su contenido.Brilliant pricing, arrived ahead of schedule. No complaints. Plus it came from overseas. This is how it should be done.
