Got this game for a friend as a joke after hearing the bad reputation, expecting it to be horrible. Turns out it was quite a blast, even if pretty janky and lacking polish. I’ll bullet point pros and cons for you:PROS. creative worlds to explore (my favorites are 2, 4, 8 and 9!). A variety of silly and fun costumes to use, each having some clever uses (except this one called the Fox Box, never use it.). Fun boss battles that make use of the powers/costumes you collect through each world, challenging you to attack them with each type in order to 3-star them!.Good soundtrack (although the generic combat music gets a bit samey after the while…).fun little collect-a-thon you can play with a buddy, decent little stories that remind me of Kingdom Hearts except not Disney related!CONS. One-button controls leave some costumes/powers feeling pointless at times, a design choice implemented for nostalgia purposes but ultimately lacking in convenience for the player…. The co-op system is fun, but it feels tacked on. Player 2 can’t control the camera most times, if you and ayer 2 get close you’ll stick together to jump higher wand allow player 2 to move the camera which is nice for them but hard to separate sometimes, and the worst thing is that THE GAME DOESN’T STORE PLAYER 2’S COSTUMES! So if you’re costume grinding and only had one of a specific costume and player 2 finished the level with it, it disappears which is UNFAIR!. Minor lack of polish in making gameplay smooth, such as not having a back button in menus, requiring you to scroll down to the option to go back, or by having it take a while to have a costume or key you need respawn when there’s no point to have it take so long.. The game’s fun statue collecting portion where you collect statues soon shifts from focusing on utilizing powers and looking in hard places to these little QTE sections, making it less about exploring the world and more about QTE’s, which become boring because if you miss even one QTE you don’t get the trophy, and even worse, you can’t retry them in the worlds unless you beat the boss of that world, resetting the places where you can try them. All in all, I was wondering where the hell the game everyone hated was. This game was a bit janky and lacked a certain polish to make it a smooth gaming experience, but I genuinely found it entertaining and fun to play. It’s like a clumsily written love letter to nostalgic mascot platforming, warts and all. If you can get past some of the little issues here and thete that can begin to pile up, there’s some old-school fun to be had here! Give it a chance if you’re interested, it will surprise you!
