Metroid Dread - Nintendo Switch Game | Action-Adventure Sci-Fi Video Game for Nintendo Switch | Perfect for Solo Gaming & Sci-Fi Fans

I was expecting good things from Metroid Dread. I didn't really know what to expect from this game though, since Nintendo haven't exactly treated Metroid with respect and integrity in recent years. (Looking at you Federation Force...)However, I am delighted to say that this game absolutely exceeds ALL expectations. I've not beaten the game yet, but I'm willing to say this may be the single most perfect Metroid game Nintendo has ever given us. This game, unlike so many others in the last few years, gets a 10/10 from me, and this is high praise, as I am a very harsh critic.The reason I'm able to give M:D such a high score is because it doesn't hold back in the slightest. If it's going to punch you, it's going to give you everything it has. Bosses are beautifully crafted and not one single boss has been too easy or lame. Every single one has challenged me, killed me, and forced me to think outside the box to beat them. Each death adds to your skill in ways most other games don't even touch on, even Samus Returns.This game is built on the Samus Returns gameplay style. While I really enjoyed SR, M:D takes this engine to a new level. There are numerous quality of life improvements and tons of well thought out mechanics, much more so than SR. If Samus Returns were a food, it would be a hamburger, filling and delicious. If Metroid Dread were a meal, it would be a 3 course at Gordon Ramsay's restaurant. I mean this in every way. A hamburger you eat and you're done. M:D just keep coming and coming and coming and its amazing and terrifiying and beautifully crafted.The sound design is so incredibly amazing. Rarely do I find myself in quiet rooms outside the safe area. The ambiance is superb. The soundtrack makes your heart race. When you're in danger, YOU ARE IN DANGER, and the audio beats right along with your poor overencumbered heart. The music and sound design makes this game feel like, "It's GOING," or, "It's HAPPENING!" Moments where you catch your breath are sweet sighs of relief, readying yourself to enter that doorway and get back in the fight or flight again. The only criticism I have on sound is that they reused the heat and lava warning sound from SR. That blaring alarm sounds so low quality next to all the other sounds. They also reused the parry sound, but that fits right in.Art. Art is good. This game's got hella art. See the art. Very pretty, much gaze. The graphics, while not the best, still looks incredible. The stylization Nintendo is known for for making lower resolutions look outstanding is here. There are aliasing lines, but I can ignore those.Enemies are much more varied than in SR. Each one has its own timing for parry, and some don't even have parry as an option. There seem to be enemy types that all areas abide by, but instead of how they did it in SR where new enemies were just recolors, every area has their own enemy models. Going to a new area and seeing new gnarly toothed floating things of rage is really cool and every zone has enemies that fit it's environment.So far the story is phenomenal, and I rarely give stories high praise. I won't say much here because these are spoilers you won't want spoiled. Needless to say, Metroid type s*** is HAPPENING! This game has a lot of cannon. Metroid Fusion is important, being the last mainline 2D Metroid game in the series. Exploring the game later on after a certain event takes place (you'll know what I mean when you get there) is unbelievably cool and nostalgic. Beating my first... uh... certain.... boss... filled me with IMMENSE pride, like I showed it whos boss again and told it to sit tf back down. This story is very well crafted and I hate that I shant say anything more about it. 10/10. This game also has voice acting! And it's good!Controls are tight. If you get hit, you are unable to move for a split second. The puzzles in this game are all well thought out and thought provoking. There were a couple spots where I thought I was softlocked but I was just being a big ol stupidhead. Being a veteran of Metroid games, I feel I have been able to find my way through the maze of the map fairly easily, but then again, I think the map design and room placement is also just really good.If you like Metroid, have played a 2D Metroid in the past, and have played Samus Returns or Metroid Fusion, this game is for you.Just a disclaimer for the weak of heart. This game is named Metroid Dread for a reason. This game will fill you with dread as you watch helplessly as you die. There are zones where you are powerless against the specific type of foe. I joked with one of my friends that this game could have also been called Metroid: Scary or Metroid: AAAH!I find it helps to tell the enemies "please sir do not hurt me for I am just a wee baby."Enjoy this masterpiece!So hear me out... The last Metroid game I played was Metroid II Return of Samus on my Gameboy (the original Gameboy from 1991 which still works to this day) and I played the heck out of that game, finishing it in its entirety. I'm familiar with Metroidvania style games and love a good side scroller. Metroid Dread is a well made and polished game, and it is fun to explore the levels, collect items, etc... but the biggest nuisances are the EMMI's and some of the boss battles. The EMMI's cannot be directly attacked and you have to obtain an Omega cannon by destroying the central unit for each EMMI, and afterwards the Omega cannon ceases to function until you destroy the next central unit. The EMMI's follow a pattern and you need to kind of understand it to avoid them. Otherwise they can one-hit kill you, unless you have super twitch fast reflexes to counter their moves in a special action sequence.The same goes for the boss matches. Some of them are fairly simple to understand, others are missile magnets that require repeating certain attack patterns otherwise you die. You can get the Gravity Suit and the boss attacks will quickly drain your health as if you didn't have that suit. I see Youtube videos of expert players going against high level bosses with only a few energy tanks and it is clear they have super cat like reflexes and recognize every single pattern of attack. I'm more of a driving/flight sim player and not a twitch/pattern player. Executing some of the Shinespark moves to break speed booster blocks takes practice and finesse and I can see the expert players breaking out those moves without an issue.Aside from the pattern recognition and EMMI's, the game is great. There are lots of items that can be obtained out of sequence. You're probably familiar with 3 different ways of destroying Kraid, but aside from the Morph Ball Bomb, Flash Shift, and Pulse Radar that can be obtained out of sequence before meeting Kraid, you can also grab the Space Jump, Cross Bomb, Gravity Suit, Screw Attack, and possibly the Power Bomb before even going against the Escue boss to obtain the Storm Missile and then the Ferenia EMMI for its Wave Beam. Otherwise, the game is actually quite linear. You are forced down certain routes and sequences based on the abilities you have or need to obtain to move to the next phase. Those out of sequence items I mentioned are the primary ones you can get out of sequence. I got sick and tired of being hunted down by the Ferenia EMMI because of its hyper long range radar and beam bubbles so I decided to see if I can get the Space Jump and Gravity Suit to find other routes in the EMMI zone.AMIIBO are available, and if you get the Metroid Dread amiibo, they add 1 extra energy tank and 10 extra missiles permanently. If you use them again, they restore between 50-200 energy once a day, or 30-60+ missiles once a day. Not very useful during a boss battle as I've had the Samus amiibo only add 50 energy once.By the time you are getting close to the end of the game, Samus's abilities are pretty much back to what we're familiar with in other games with the space jump, spin boost, screw attack, morph ball bombs, etc...Overall: 4/5 stars. I really have to deduct 1 star because of the EMMI's and how the boss encounters are structured. It's too heavily dependent on exact patterns. It should be a bit easier to counter the EMMI just to ease the frustration a bit. Boss encounters can be learned by failing and repeating over and over and over and over and over again. The same goes for using the Omega cannon on the EMMI. Need to find the right place to overheat its armor and then aim carefully using the Joycon sticks that are made of glass. But it is an otherwise well made and fun game, almost true to the core Metroid DNA (no pun intended).Lo compre porque queria la etiqueta de la ESRB, pero trae la etiqueta mexicana amarailla B15.Um jogo de plataforma 2D/3D com detalhes gráficas incríveis, profundidade dos cenários perfeitos e um enredo muito bom, a jogabilidade também é bem fluida, apesar de que esperava ser mais desafiador e, por isso, tivesse mais horas de jogatina. Não sou um jogador assíduo, não tenho muita habilidade e mesmo assim terminei o jogo em 100% em 9 horas no modo hard (depois da primeira que foram 38 horas) isso pq eu enrolava um pouco pra passar pra outras áreas, sem isso talvez terminasse em 7h, mesmo não tendo muita habilidade. O ponto super negativo pra qualquer mídia física da Nintendo (e digital) é o preço dos jogos, são pequenas fortunas, por isso compro um por ano (ou a cada dois anos), juntando o dinheiro que sobra pra ver se dá pra comprar um que seja legal. Aconselho de todo coração o "Hollow Knight" pra quem gosta de jogos metroidvania.El juego es una hermosura como era de esperarse, llegó bien y a tiempo.Lo mejor de todo es que trae la etiqueta de la ESRB.Compre esta versión (más cara) porque la anunciaron como ERSB pero SUPER MARKET EXPRESS te manda la versión mexicana con etiqueta amarilla!Desde que el gobierno mexicano introdujo sus horrendas etiquetas de clasificación, he tenido que importar los juegos de USA, Amazon he resultado una excelente opción. ¡Además es un Juegazo!
